Google is investing on a new and ambitious project later this 2009. The project is aimed to rework instant messaging, email, blogging, and document sharing. If you’re intrigued with Google Wave, you should know some of the project’s highlights.
Firstly, do you know what a wave is? A wave is a document and conversation. A lot of people can communicate with others and work effectively with the aid of photos, text, maps, video, and more. It can also be shared which allows a participant to reply a message anywhere, edit its contents, or add more participants. And most of all, a wave has live transmissions for faster conversations and real time interaction. The Google Wave serves as a platform that contains open APIs so that developers can embed waves in other internet services and build extensions inside the waves that really work. So, it is possible to make robot extensions so that common tasks are automated.
According to Vic Gundotra (Google’s engineering vice president) Wave brings together Google Docs and Gmail. However, since the Wave is simply a developer release, the company would be able to figure things out on how to bring the 2 features together in the coming months. Still, people are always open to surprises. Who knows – perhaps Google Wave might be the evolution of Docs, Gmail, and even Blogger. Who wouldn’t want to use a 1-communication tool that can answer all your needs, right?
Wave is great for young tech-savvy people. It can also be used in the corporate environment. However, older individuals might not be able to use it without encountering difficulties.
Twitter is a social network that allows search capability in real time. The acquisition rumors are not true. Google Wave, in essence, is real time linking, waves searching, object manipulation, and translation. For instance, in your Google Docs, you can instantly translate the contents into Spanish.
Real time or instantaneous search is among Wave’s exciting capabilities. The project leader Lars Rasmussen and project manager Stephanie Hannon of Google tried using ‘wav’ and ‘wave’ to check the search results. They did it several times until they finally decided to use ‘wave’. So, is the new Google Wave capable of providing real time searches? Gundotra claims that Google is continuously improving their response time to acquire real time results. This is also true with Google Wave.
Mobile wave is another essential feature that can cater to the needs of the very busy individuals who are always on the go. In a demo by Gundotra, he showed that iPhone and the Android phone ran Google Wave. However, Hannon said that there are still no plans about iPhone Wave applications.
Fight spam with Google Wave. Gmail is able to fight spam but there are times when they get through. Spammers also have their way in sending unwanted ads via social networks, mobile phone, and other media. Wave is capable of fighting spam effectively and there are as well plans to whitelist the contacts to prevent spamming completely.
This communication and collaboration product will attract tech savvy internet users. Let’s just wait and see.
Go check it out ... Google Wave
